It’s tempting to just write an article or book with a catchy or clever title, but is that the best way to get found online? That depends on what the author is trying to accomplish. Some write simply because they love writing, while the vast majority of writers hope to make sales and get hits to their web pages. Following are a few tips on choosing book titles and article headings that will rank higher on Google.
This is a valuable SEO tool to use when searching for the best keywords to use for a book or article title, and also other relevant keywords in the body.
Have a List Of Keywords
Type in a keyword or short phrase associated with the article or book. For example, if an author is writing a book on women’s health and nutrition, he could type in women's health then clicked Global Monthly Search Volume, it would show how many times people all over the world have searched for this phrase. The author would go down the list and choose some words and phrases that fit book subject or article and write these down.
Check Search Results
Before choosing words, it's good to look them over to see which keywords rank the highest. A few examples from the women’s health search turned up:
Women's Health Issues - this phrase got 14,800 searches in February 2010
Antiaging - over 200,000 searches
Nutrition facts - over 200,000 searches
Energy healing - over 110,000 searches
Handbook - over 7 million searches
Choosing A Title
It would be impossible to use every strong keyword listed, but selecting relevant phrases that create a short yet informative title are what the writer should be going for. By using some of these examples, a good title for the women's health book may look something like this:
Title: Women's Health Issues - Fight Back!
Subtitle: Your Antiaging, Energy Healing and Nutritional Facts Handbook.
This is a very keyword rich title. Of course, that was just an example of how to use popular keywords for this particular book title.
Whenever an author is going to write an article or book, the first thing they should do is to write down some of the keywords pertaining to the subject they're writing about. Go directly to Google Adwords and see how popular these words are. Many writer’s are surprised to find out that what they believed were strong keywords, actually turned out to rank very low in the search engines. However, by using this method, many wise authors find that their articles and books appear on the first page of Google. Search engine optimizing is a must to get there.
